Papers of Boston abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison, 1833-82, consist of correspondence between Garrison, his wife Helen (Benson) Garrison, other members of the Benson family of Brooklyn, Connecticut, and several of the Garrison children, especially Wendell Phillips Garrison. Correspondence details the domestic activities of the Garrison family, including the births of two children, the health of Mrs. Garrison, travels undertaken by various members of the family, visits by and to friends and relatives, and letters to William Lloyd Garrison, Jr., concerning his father's illness and death in May 1879. In addition are several poems written by William Lloyd Garrison, letters from fellow abolitionists Francis Jackson, Samuel J. May, Samuel D. Sewall, and Gerrit Smith concerning reform activities, and financial records for two testimonial funds collected in Garrison's behalf.
